Just Kids to become a TV series for Showtime

Patti Smith's National Book Award-winning memoir about her time with Robert Mapplethorpe, Just Kids, is being turned into a Showtime series, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The network has ordered a 'limited series' adaptation of the 2010 bestseller, to be written and co-produced by Smith herself.

"A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation," Smith said in a press release. Showtime president David Nevins added that the book was "one of my favorite memoirs of all time. Not only is it a fascinating portrait of artists coming of age, but it’s also an inspiring story of friendship, love and endurance."

Smith will be in Toronto on the 13th of October, at the Design Exchange, as part of a promotional tour for M Train, the sequel to Just Kids. It is slated for release on October 6th.
